 What is Bucket Filling?
“In a world where put downs are sport and bad feelings pass from person to person like a handshake, it is a challenge for students to establish and maintain a sense of personal worth and a positive self-image. It is time for a change! " The book, Have You Filled a Bucket Today? explains to children that we all carry an invisible bucket in which we keep our positive feelings about ourselves. When our bucket is full, we are happy; when our bucket is empty, we are sad. The book teaches children how they can fill their bucket by loving others, helping others, and being a friend to others. It also teaches children how to prevent bucket dipping which is caused by actions that hurt others.  This is a life long message, and one that we want to own this year at Reagan. Teachers and students are encouraged to recognize those students who go above and beyond to be a bucket filler. These positive actions are recorded, shared on the morning show, and posted on our walls. Each grade level has a bucket posted in their wing where you can read about student actions. When visiting this year, take time to read some of the positive things that are happening at Reagan. If you see bucket filling actions by students or faculty while visiting, please take time to record it on a star or heart found in small buckets around the school.  You can then drop these in the large bucket just outside the  cafeteria doors across from the media center. We will then share your positive experiences with the rest of the school.
